The one day I crave human interaction and no one is here. What is this? Am I bored? When was the last time I was bored? Years ago it seems.

I got a raise at work, and not because minimum wage went up, either. That makes me happy. I've been getting pretty good grades and everything is pretty much going according to plan.

OH SHIT there's going to be a live-action TV series of The Walking Dead. *excitement* Must find somewhere online to watch it since I don't have cable.

I'm playing Humans vs. Zombies next week, but it's not going to be easy. I need to find an alternate entrance into Cooper Hall and figure out where to park my bike where there aren't always craptons of people around. I'll be able to show up way early to my first class, but my next few will be tricky. If I get turned I am stalking my roommates when they leave and come home. Sorry guys, a girl's gotta eat! ;D

We went to see The Last Airbender for the midnight premiere. It was bad. There were lots of laughing and groaning throughout the whole film. I'm pretty sure the people who dressed up walked out before the end. The rest of us stayed after the credits and discussed how terrible it was.

The writing was really forced, it was rushed, you had no sense of how much time had passed from beginning to end, was it days? Months? It was so dumbed down that my intelligence felt insulted. All of the characters had no personality at all except for Zuko and Iroh, and even then it was poorly presented. The movie was an empty shell; it had no heart. "Okay, we're some people, we're going to the North Pole to learns us some Waterbending, okay now there's some bad guys, we should defeat them I guess. Let's not learn any lessons along the way, we're just gonna visit some towns and tell everyone the Avatar's back. Oh no, we're being followed! How are they tracking us!?" The major events in the show happened in the movie, but there were bullshit reasons given for the stuff characters did. "I ran away because the Avatar can't have a family." That's it? What about the fact that he's twelve and they were forcing the responsibility of saving the world on his shoulders and taking away his childhood?

Katara narrated things that were happening on screen and didn't need to be narrated. Sokka and Yue had no chemistry, like, "Oh, we're besties all of a sudden I guess, even though I just met you an hour ago. I wonder how that happened." Earthbenders in the background were seen sweeping. The ground outside. With. BROOMS. Bending looked like an interpretive dance that took a whole few minutes to do just one move. The Firebenders were only able to control fire that was already there, which would have been great, except for the fact that NONE of the other characters considered, "Hey, maybe we should put out our campfires. I mean, we've got all this water and dirt, maybe we can like, you know, BEND IT?"

How often do you think about, and plan for, the future? Do you think it ever interferes with your ability to live in the moment?

I am constantly thinking about the future. I have a hard time living in the moment, and I think I might have lost my ability to do that. It was just the way I was brought up. All through middle school I was told to get good grades so that I could get into a good high school. All through high school I was told that if I didn't get straight As, I wouldn't get into college and I'd have to work at McDonald's for the rest of my life (no offense to people who work at McDonald's, they probably get paid more than I do at my somewhat similar job). My freshman geometry teacher went on about how we were supposed to be studying for the SAT so that we'd be ready for it two years later. Now, I have to plan exactly which classes I have to take to graduate college as soon as possible so that I can hurry up and get a good job so that I can finally get my life STARTED! Then after that I have to hurry up and pay off my loans so that they don't accrue too much interest and I can finally relax and not have any more debt. Everything I do right now is so that I can relax and have lots of money in a few years, and do everything right what my parents did wrong. I think I'm doing a pretty good job so far.

The shortest-term I can think about right now is next month when I'll be moving out of my parents' house and into an apartment. What am I doing tomorrow? Working, and then...?

So the other day me and Roland went to the Palm Harbor library, and all the young adult fiction was enclosed in a room labeled "TEENS" with a sign on the door that said "Ages 13 to 18 ONLY". I felt discriminated against, because I read those books too! They're hiding away all the John Green and all the comics!

But why are they keeping it away from everyone else? Have I outgrown young adult fiction? Is it improper for me to read books about high schoolers? Is it creepy? I mean, if I could find books about people my own age who do cool stuff that I'm interested in, that'd be great. But there's a huge gap between young adult fiction for high schoolers and adult fiction for people over 30. It seems like there's nothing in between.

Let's fix this problem. Can someone recommend some books for/about people in the 18-24 age group in which cool shit happens?

In other news, the Doctor and his companions keep getting younger and younger! He's growing down. Soon it will be a show for high schoolers and once again I'll look like a creeper for wanting to be entertained by the fictional happenings of THAT age group because none of their experiences could EVER apply to me!

I'm planning on cosplaying the unnamed female player character from Pokemon Black and White at Metrocon this year, and I'm trying to put together some kind of group cosplay! People in Oushi should check the forums because I posted a thread about it. So far Andrew claimed Lucas from Diamond and Pearl, and Roland claimed unnamed Black and White dude. Come on guys, it'll be easy~
Me, Andrew, and Roland were going to do Fuu, Mugen, and Jin from Samurai Champloo to go with the Ninja vs. Samurai theme this year, but since Roland and Andrew don't really have sewing skills I'd basically be making all three and I just don't have that kind of time or monies. But this idea is better!

Also Oushi people who may be reading this, remember to pay me back the $2.50 tax on each Metrocon ticket that I forgot to calculate into the price. I think some people missed that post and the announcement at the meeting, so yeah! Everyone gave me $36 for the tickets, but there ended up being a $2.50 sales tax for each ticket in addition to that, and I got charged an extra $40-something total. Oops!

I have one extra weekend pass that hasn't been claimed, so whoever puts $38.50 in my hands first gets it! Too late, it is for Frank.

Do you ever call friends or use the Internet when flying or do you use airplane time as an opportunity to unwind, read, or talk to strangers? How do you usually pass the time when you’re in the air?

In-flight calling and Internet cost money, and I think that's silly. I'm not paying $12 to use the Internet for two hours. It would be different if I were on a 15-hour flight to someplace across the world though, I guess, which I've never done. Normally I just read a book or listen to music or play Pokemon on my Game Boy. :B

Once I was reading Harry Potter while listening to a CD, and the girl next to me who was around my age happened to be doing the exact same thing. Insta-friends!

No, I don't want to link Pages to my profile. It doesn't preserve the way I wrote it. It just seems so inhuman, as though Facebook is telling you about me and I'm just kinda sitting there in silence being examined.

Can we all just switch over to LJ and make one meaningful post once a day instead of twelve useless status updates?

I've decided to just kinda stop using Facebook. Not quit, just stop. My profile will still be there, and my LJ updates will still carry over via RSS, and I may or may not read other people's status updates, and I'll reply if people contact me, and Oh who am I kidding, this all still counts as using it. Okay so I'm cutting down! Baby steps!

I'd really like it if all of my friends over there came over here, and that way I can learn about their likes and dislikes through their words, and not because they simply click the "like" button. And LJ is so simplified! I can see everything at once. I can post videos and photos from anywhere, I can link to anything right here, and I can make status updates however long I want them to be! People who complain about the constant Facebook layout changes would find comfort that LJ stays mostly the same, and if they don't like it, they can change it themselves! Problem solved!

If we're going to be slaves for ad revenue either way, we might as well enjoy our labor!

Do you plan on celebrating St. Patrick's Day? If so, how? What memories and feelings do you associate with this holiday?

It's great that Irish people want to celebrate their heritage, and I guess kids have fun wearing green and pinching each other, but otherwise it just seems like an excuse to get really really drunk. I don't like going to St. Patrick's Day celebrations because the people there are always drunk, and they're smelly because they've been outside in the heat all day, and crowds of smelly drunk people in my experience are not fun.

I'm not Irish, nor am I Catholic anymore, so I generally just don't care. I'll wear just enough green to not get pinched by complete strangers.

Writer's Block: Out of fashion

If you could choose which fashions would go out of style permanently, what would you choose, and why?

Those weird velvety track suit things with the matching pants+jacket. The pants look like pajamas to me. And please, men, pull your pants up. I would expect that from a middle- or high-schooler, not from a grown college man.

But really, I don't dictate what other people can and can't wear. If a person wants to wear a fanny pack or their pants around their ankles, I don't have a problem with it. Just know that I'm not going to be your friend if you do.

Writer's Block: Raining cats or dogs?
luna
thefreckledone
Do you have a decided preference between cats and dogs? Which do you prefer, and why? Would you consider a roommate or partner who had a contrary pet proclivity?

Cats cats cats.

I was raised with both dogs and cats. We currently have three dogs and two cats. The dogs bark and whine all the time and they smell and when you walk in the door they bark like mad and jump on you and I don't encourage that behavior but my parents just let it go so it's not going to stop. They bark to go outside and then two seconds later they bark to come inside, but then they want out again, and when you're in a hurry to leave the house they never want to come inside, and we can't just leave them out because then they'll bark at the neighbors. If they have to use the bathroom during the night, they will go straight to the last carpeted room in the house (the rest were ruined the same way). I love my golden retriever but dogs are my parents' thing.

Cats are just so much quieter and cleaner and when they jump on you, it's cute and not annoying. You feed them and clean their litter box and they'll love you forever.

One of my future roommates has a chihuahua who is smaller than any of the cats. She's basically a cat except her litter box is the outside. There will be no problem with her.
