You know, I was thinking about that Earth Hour thing (tomorrow at 8pm by the way), and how they're asking businesses to get in on it. And I guess all this time I've sorta been taking electricity for granted. Like, it's easy for a household to do it, because all we're losing is a couple of lights, a TV, computer, etc. We can just do something else for an hour. But for businesses it's harder because they depend so much on electricity. AMC for example. It's not like they can just stop the movies and be like, "Okay guys, time to save the world." That would mess everything up and people would be pissed. If a grocery store did it, they might as well just close the store entirely for an hour, because without the lights and cash registers and security cameras and alarms, not only would people not be able to shop, but shoplifters would have a field day.

So unless it was an entire city-wide thing like in Dubai and San Francisco and wherever else where everyone knew and made accommodations for it (because the city was gonna turn off their power anyway), people can't expect too many businesses to participate.

Seriously, why do I always sound like a kindergartener when I talk about environmental stuff? Geez.

So today I was really bored so I went to ride my bike and see if I couldn't find any people my age in my neighborhood. I saw a couple people, but looks can be deceiving and for all I know they could be like 25, or like 13 or something. Maybe next time I'll work up the courage to actually talk to them and find out.

Then Mary came over and we talked and talked and talked and played some Harry Potter version of Clue.

I think we should bring back the Pony Express when/before oil becomes economically depleted. Maybe around the time when gas becomes so expensive that the only people still driving are the rich folks with limousines. I think that would be a good idea, at least until electric or solar powered cars become cheap enough so that everyone can afford them. And even then, instead of relying so much on cars, more cities should be built vertically so that people can walk instead. And to power the electric cars, we need renewable sources of electricity before the coal runs out too. But by then solar panels will be cheaper and more efficient so we won't have to worry about that.

You know why this county is so screwed up? It's because it's completely built horizontally. See, instead of making buildings right next to each other, they have to make space for parking lots. Lots and lots of space, because lots and lots of cars are on the road. They also need space because big stores like Target and Wal-Mart and Publix need space to put their stuff. But if fewer cars were on the road, they wouldn't need all the space for parking lots, and buildings would be built smaller and closer together. And since they're also smaller, huge department stores and grocery stores would go elsewhere, leaving room for independent businesspeople to come in and make a living. Communities would be closer together, in more ways than one. Because people wouldn't be hidden by their cars, they would pass people in the street and maybe even say hello. People would be less stressed because there wouldn't be any road rage. There would be fewer deaths because of fewer car accidents. People who aren't able to drive wouldn't feel so trapped because they would be able to hang out with their friends and be independent even if their parents couldn't drive them anywhere! I want to live in that kind of society! ;~;

This entry looks like a kindergartener wrote it. I'm going to bed.
